Anything that doesn't relate to your essential presence, stillness, or consciousness will forever lead you in circles. It's unproductive and spiritually unreal. Music is a help. It has nothing to do with your internal dialogue, it only has to do with creating sounds. It is free from the pitfalls of ordinary thinking.
Drawing takes me on a discovery trip. It is total discovery, but if I am thinking of anything, it ruins the drawing. The process of pulling the drawings from out of the center of my being is the actual therapy and creates the contact with spirit and with the essential elements of my consciousness.
My advice is to accept it all, try it all to get you where you want to go, including stating your objectives. You never know where your inspiration will come from. Over time, it will become a pattern and show itself.
